#VARY.SXP
5 messages in this thread
Does anyone have additional info about VARY.SXP. In particular, I am trying
to fade out one element of a logo. However the edges of the object are
still showing, is their any special consideration needed for Mapping?

Steve,
Have you considered using video post instead? Vary.sxp is very sloooow and
instead you should use video post with the fadeout option over your
required number of frames. You would be able to control the fadeout much
easier and the rendering time is much faster – I found that out back in the
early days of 3dsr2. I use video post extensively and with creative use of
it I have been able to reduce rendering times to 2 seconds in certain
circumstances where normal rendering would have taken several minutes.

Martin, Thanks for the advice! Could you go into more detail about the
process of fading one 3DS object while keeping the others?

Steve,
If you still want to use the VARY.SXP you'll need to set the both
the Texture maps to VARY and the Opacity map to VARY. For more details see
the new tutorials, page N6-32.

While you are on your favourite subject of Video-post I am still having no
luck with crossfades.
My original files were 24 bit and I was queueing the alpha, so it generated
psuedo alpha. I swapped them for a single 32bit file(made with TOPAS many
moons ago), no other changes and got dipless cross fade. So I rerendered a
couple of relevant frames with alpha on to get 32 bit and I still get a dip
at the mid point but less of a dip than I did with the 24 bit files.
Any more thoughts
