Did I read right? Is Gold Disk offering an upgrade for Pdraw to PPage
owners? $129.00 sound right? What are the details? How's Darlene?

Darlenes, is AOK. She took a break–must be nice 😉 –but she is still
concentrating on our windows products (so your stuck with me…he he).
The price of $129 is the `the other guys' upgrade package. All our pricing
info on the upgrade is listed in a text file located in the WP/DTP library.
Also, a special upgrade notice for OTHER DTP programs was just posted in
both the WP/DTP section and in the Amiga Arts/Paint & Draw section.

Can I upgrade my PDraw 2.0 through CompuServe like I did my PPage 3.0
upgrade? I'm not sure of my registration number (but I know Darlene could
find it) … or will I have to mail you my manual/disk?

You can upgrade through CompuServe, no problem.
Leave me a message with your CC number and exp. date with a full mailing
address or if you want it shipped fed-ex, your fed-ex account number.

Gracia, Delux Paint had an Arts disk out a couple of years ago that had
some of what you may be looking for.
Also you could try the forum called "Corner" or "Artgallery" may also
have what you are looking for. There is a "GIF" file converter utility in
our Arts Forum to convert the file formats. I have DL'd it but have not
got it in operation yet….I'm planning on getting Imagemaster soon so I
can convert all sorts of formats for the Amiga.

I see you send messages to the wrong place just like I do <:^}>. Thanks, I
have most of Dpaint and Dprint art disks. I didn't think of them since I
haven't used them since I stopped using my 1000. I was really hoping for
some good holiday dingbats, a lot easier to use when you're making a
calendar. We're selling "Birthdays", "Memorials" and "Anniversaries" so it
will be a lot of work. So far it's hell just getting fonts they want to use
with Ppage and Post. Keeps the blood flowing.

Yep computers are amazing, especially the Amiga. I've been "talking" to
someone in Tokyo via the Avsig Forum !!!!

Your project sounds interesting. Am I right in thinking that you are
designing the Calendars for another party who will then print them, for
sale?
PS are you in the 'States or elswhere?

I forgot where you sent it. Oldtimers disease <g>. I have "byte" pals in
Israel, Isle of Mann, and most of my friends around the States who will
send email but can't write a letter!
I typeset the local Historical Association's newsletter and this year I'm
going to do their calendar. People can "buy' birthdays, memorials and
anniversaries which we'll put into the calendar.They got "taken" by the
commercial print shop that did it last year. I'll make a mechanical, print
it on my HP DeskJet and the GOOD local printer will print it. We wanted the
use the same style type as last year, hence my search for Lubalin and
dingbats. My scanned graphics seem to be doing the trick. What are you
doing with Ami?
I'm in a tiny mill town in North Carolina. Moved here last year from NYC.

little Burb-in-the Road town called Cooleemee. No reason, just bought some
land there. Cheaper to live then NYC and I have a "friend" here. What part
of the South do you come from? I grew up in Annapolis, MD
You have the new Supra V.32bis, don't you? If so what's the secret for
Whap! set up. I use it straight out of the box so far. I have Prefs set to
19900 baud and largest buffer, speed link in Whap! set to 38400. I'm still
not sure about how to set compression (or unset it, rather.) Today was dry
and the Micky Mouse phone company lines seemed to be clear and the modem
worked well, though I got 2 errors in a DL.

Yes, I have the supra 14400 bis FaxModem. For whap, like i said, delete
the T9600 file and have whap set up things again. The startup string I use
is probably different. It is AT&F2M0W2S0=0. AT&F2 set things back to the
factory settings for the IBM and AMIGA. The M0 turns the modem speeker off
completely. The W2 will show the modem to modem connect rate only on the
front of the modem and the screen. As for the compression, some BBS
(generaly local) will not allow time for the modems to negociate a
compression or error correction. When you find one that is hard to log
onto, issue an AT\N and then dial the number. This will turn off the
attempt at setting up errorcorrection with the modems that won't do it.
As for the other settings, I have an A3000 and have the baud rate to modem
maxed out at 31250 and the buffer maxed out also. If I am not mistaken, it
will accept up to 38400 baud from the computer.

Thats really interesting about the Newsletter, I plan to re-join our local
Microlight Aircraft Club (Ultralights in the USA) and woud like to do
their Newsletter on my Ami. I'm an amature in the printing area, but would
like to do this on the Ami for the club. I figure that I would "learn by
doing" and this would help pay for some of the expence of the computer. I
have done a couple of Leaflet jobs for our Garage (Auto-shop) producing
the Postscript file for a local Bureaux called CAPS (on CIS BTW)..who make
the Broline for me. This we used for photocopying. That was a good
learning experience. What I would like to be able to do is to have a Laser
printer and do the "whole" job myself, including running off the copies.
Running across town in my van to CAPS 2-3 times (my mistakes) cost dearly
in petrol and time.

I've got an HP-PaintJet which runs at 180 DPI and the HP-IIID seems like
it might be OK for large runs (100-200 copies).BTW which scanner do you
use, a mate of mine here has a Sharp JX100 which works very well. He
also has an Ami. It looks like you have a really complete set-up.
Thats a really good way to raise $$ for your Association, you could scan
in images from the members themselves.(which I assume you are doing)
Making it a much more personal calender for the group.Hmmmmm could I have
your permission to use the idea for our club here?

You have the right idea. Doing a newsletter is the best way to learn and
you sound like you have a good handle on using Ami <:^}>. I'm not sure
printing all of them on a laser is the way to go. I suppose it depends how
many.
My cousin, who is one of the top Art Editors in NYC, gave me a quick 6
lesson critique of one of my newsletters. He said the best teacher is to
look at magazines and try to copy the look of the ones you admire. It's
amazing how fast you start to learn all the tricks, both of design and the
software. My trouble is I'm a Degas of the press. He never liked to sell
his works because he had to continue tinkering with them, even after his
patrons said no, hand it over!
I have a EpsonES 300C, HP DEskJet500, 1000 (my first born), 3000 with
100meg HD and a Knitting Machine that interfaces with Ami. If I sound like
a rich bitch, not so. I used to make a lot of $ in New York City working
close to 24 hours a day and saved and bought all these toys over the last 6
1/2 years so I could live in the country and play with them. Of course now
that I'm not making $ all those lovely new boards and printers have come
out.Grrrrr
The calendar idea IS a great money maker and I had thought of it, before my
friend did, as a holiday present for friends and relatives. Please go to
it. Actually we have a printer and he strips in the large "month" pictures,
but for a small scale job scanning should work. I hope to try it this year

Well I finally got back on CIS, after a bit of a break due to new working
hours. Not "nearly 24 hrs" though thank goodness.
Say do you mean that there are people here in NZ using the "Amiga/Knitting
machine" setup? There are several shops selling "Hand Knitted" woollen
pullovers,sweaters etc at around $300 each (NZD). They specialise in
origonal patterns and coloring and are very good looking.
Thanks for the OK on the calendar idea. I will have to get cracking on the
move to join the club. As you said practise is the best way to learn.
I've only been through NYC once, while going between the two airports.
What an un-nerving experience that was. Had a weird cab driver that kept
looking back at me, while driving in evening traffic. I went from JFK to
La Guardia were I had to stay the night. I think it has unfortunately left
me with a bad scary impression of NYC.
Your A3000 will be a godsend with Autopilot. It is a Interlaced only
programme, which I find a bit hard on the eyes after an hour or so on my
ordinary screen. I would like to get the CBM 1950 multisinc monitor, but
have to get the $$ first. It is a hard deal on those new boards comming
out, alright. It's good news for the Amiga, I believe
Talking about Cool… its snowing real heavily about 2.5-3 hrs drive south
of here. I was talking to a truck driver at work tonight and he said that
he just made it through what we call the "Desert Road" a couple of nights
ago. Nine other trucks got stuck there that night apparently. He was a
confdent sort of bloke I guess as he was wearing shorts and a T-shirt!!!
