ProWrite 3.?.? (UK?????)

Hi, there.
I've been using ProWrite for the better part of a year now, and I
have a couple of suggestions for the next revision.
1) Quite often, I wish to distribute what I've written on disk or
via network, instead of on paper. Version 3.2.2(UK) of ProWrite does not
have a 'Print to File' feature, which I found quite useful in the 'other'
Word Processor that I used to use. (^_^) Could this be implemented in the
next upgrade of ProWrite?
2) With the recent availability of Fax/Modems on the market, the
ability to produce an output that is fax-able will be increasingly in
demand. The Print-To-File function will help a lot in this, but the
resulting output is not yet ready to send via Fax.
I understand that Supra bundles with its software a specialized
driver that would replace the Preferences Printer driver. In PW's current
implementation, you are limited to using the printer driver specified in
Prefs. This means that you can *either* send a fax or print to the printer
– you cannot do both at once.
What I would like to see is the ability for the user to specify
which driver he would like to use. I don't know if PW uses the drivers
directly or via Preferences; but if the drivers are used directly with PW,
it should be able to have the user determine which driver he would like to
use (Printer or FAX).
If you do make these additions, please be sure to make an upgrade for
the UK version of your program, as well as the US version… (It isn't
really fair to deny certain users the various product updates. (^_^)
BTW. What's the latest version of PW? (I'm still using 3.2.2UK) Is
there a patch program that can update my program to the latest one? If so,
how do I get my little hands on it? (^_-)

In reading your good wish list to ProWrite, you mentioned a few things I
agree with and that are a little confused. What we need is an ASCII output
instead of binary. The modem doesn't understand binary as the GPFAX
software driver can't convert it to an IFF fax file to send. The driver in
the GPFAX software redirects your request to output to printer to the fax
converter. In otherwords, you are using XXX wordprocessor. The GPFAX
program has the printer driver enabled and running in the background. When
you tell your wordprocessor to print the document, the output to the
printer is intersepted by the GPFAX driver and re-directed to the Fax
format and finanly the out box. It does not print on the printer nor does
the GPFAX printer driver go in your devices directory. It is for the use of
the fax software only.

I agree. That's what I was thinking when I suggested a 'Print to File'
function. The 'Save as Text' option in the Save function doesn't cut it
for me.

But the GPFAX driver (from what I understand in reading the reviews)
does not allow you to use your printer while it is running. Hence, you can
either send a fax document OR you can print a document – you cannot switch
between without disabling the GPFAX driver.
What I would like to see is something like what the AE Send-Fax system
had… If you wish to send a document as a Fax, you select the 'Print to
File' option and redirect the output to a FAX: device (Which you have
previously set up). The software driver will then pop up a requester
asking you for the number of the destination FAX machine, and will take it
from there. While your fax is being transmitted (or whatever else has to
be done) you can be printing out another document on your printer.
Since the Amiga is such a versatile multitasking machine, it should (in
theory) be able to do this without difficulty.

I though most fax systems were implemented as printer drivers. You just
select FAX as your printer and off you go. Is this not right? Seems the
logical way to do it.
You can redirect PW output to a file. The AmigaOS CMD program does this
for any program. — Art

With the GPFax software that comes with the Supra modems, you 1st open the
GPFax window and select envirement and from there, select printer driver.
You can then iconify the fax software. Next, open whatever wordprocesser
you want and when you are finished with your letter or whatever, just
select PRINT just as you normaly would. The GPFax will intersept the
message and re-direct it to the fax software to be converted into a fax
type format. It is then stored in the fax out drawer till your ready to
send it. As for the other stuff, Yes, I do know I can output to files etc.
The fax needs this done to convert the message to a fax format to send.

We do have a 3.2.4UK version of ProWrite. I do not know if the patch is on
CompuServe, but I did make it available on the Internet. Check to see if
the patch is here and if not, then I'll get it uploaded for you.

I did a quick scan of the library and didn't see it. Would you be so
kind…? (BTW I'm currently using 3.2.2UK — just in case you need that
info to determine which patch to send.) If you could EMail it to me, I'd
be *EVER* so grateful. (^_^)
