3D Studio speed improvement with VMI's RenderReady(tm) technology… There has been considerable discussion on this forum about cards and drivers which will improve the performance of 3D Studio. There is no question that 3D Studio is a compute intensive application which normal drivers can minimally speed up. VMI provides a 3D Studio driver with its AutoMate/PRO software which takes a unique approach to increasing the productivity of the 3D Studio user. AutoMate/PRO contains a proprietary technology called RenderReady(tm) which allows the user to render in half the resolution of the display card they are using (which means you only have to render one fourth of the full screen pixels). The RenderReady algorithms replicate and reprocess the rendered image to near photo-realistic quality for full screen resolution viewing. The user stays in this mode – called VMI-2X – while they are iterating their design process (changing materials, light sources, etc.). When the user is finally happy with the image, the final rendering is done at full resolution. The VMI-2X feature results in a 3X productivity improvement (rendering time is reduced by 75%). In addition, the RenderReady technology provides near photo-realistic images on eight bit cards. This means the same card that does your AutoCAD can also be your True Color card. AutoMate/PRO is $295, and has a money back guarantee. AutoMate/PRO works with all popular high performance super VGA's and TIGA cards. -Russ Goodwin [VMI]

Russ, What boards will the Automate/PRO software support? Will it support 24 bit? Steve Ormonde

Russ – But can you see your mapping icon?<g> Jack Bayt – Vibrant

Russ – I would be VERY careful in this forum about using the term "photo-realistic" and "8-bit" together… Jack Bayt -Vibrant

Jack: I have seen examples of VMI's Cobra 8 bit 'photorealistic' color which are pretty darned good… whether they are using the same techinique in a non-proprietary fashion, I don't know… C#

Russ, I get about the same effect by rendering a quarter-sized image until I'm ready to see a full-screen. All I have to do is change my screen size in render/setup/configure from, say, 640×480 to 320×240. This costs me ………. nothing (quite a bargain!). What is you software doing differently? Do you spread that quarter-sized image over the entire screen? If so I don't know if that would be very clear to look at.
