#mine collapse
8 messages in this thread
Hello,
We're animating a mine collapse and wanted to know of any
sugestions you might have in creating a splintering beam effect and a good
rock fall which leaves a hollowed out ceiling and a mounded floor.
We already have a prerecorded collapse which we need to
sync with the fall.
Thanks

Do you want to know how to do this in 3DS or AniPro? Is the output for
Video or VGA?

Suppose that would help– Sent the message under wrong category–3ds r2
–640x 480 eventually t end up on 3/4 & 1/2" for dist.
Thanks
p.s. have Anipro too

Well, I've had some success in shattering things by using the new
Create\Element\Explode command in the 3D Editor. If you need more faces for
a realistic looking explosion, then use the Create\Face\Tesselate option.
To make the shattered post look solid, you may need to model both broken
pieces along with an explodable middle section. The broken pieces can be
capped on both end with some sort of rough looking texture. Or you can pull
and push vertices around to make it look like the ends shattered. Hope
those ideas help.

Great, I hadn't thought of capping the ends–I'm having trouble making a
semi controlled fall of material from the roof which doesn't look overly
contrived– any thoughts??
Thanks again
Thats tough. I just use lots and lots of previews until it looks "right".
And with the previews, shell out to DOS and use Trilobytes Play to view
them. The Preview\Play does not always play back at a constant speed. You
might try turning the display of paths on. That helps in visualizing the
fall of an object.

Thanks, we'll let you know how it goes–
We've seen you around– where are you located?
Thanks again
