#Exebyte Drive
6 messages in this thread
My company just purchased an Exebyte 8500 tape drive for backup purposes.
Would you happen to know what I would have to do in order to use the drive
for my animations? We are using Paladrone software to control the backups,
should I use this software or is there a different piece of software I
should use for Abekas to be able to read the tape? Should I record TGAs to
this tape, or should I use some other format?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Danny…
Sorry, Danny, Gary's out of town for the next week, and I can't give you an
answer on that one. Perhaps there are some others on the forum who can,
however.

Thanks Jack,
Hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction.
Regards,
Danny…
There is a .tga to YUV converter being written as we speak (should be
out soon) and according to Bruce Goren there is another company which
already has one. You'd better ask him for more details.
There are utilities (I don't know who makes them…) that will
convert TGA files to digital files… which you can put on the
exabyte tapes. To do this (until a driver from someone comes out for
3DS) you of course have to render each TGA file, convert it, copy it
to the exabyte tape, then erase the stuff off of your hard disk…
not pretty, but possible. You can take this to a digital video lab
and have your animations mastered for about $500 per minute of
animation… GREAT results, however. It has been requested that a
driver for this purpose be written, but I don't what is going on…
if you want to add it to the wishlist, post a message to Gary Yost.
While you're at it, add me to the list of requesters <g>.
Thanks for the information Craig, I'll post a request for an Exebyte
driver for 3DS wishlist. Too bad it's too late to ask for this driver
to be available for version 3.0. Maybe, if there's enough interest,
we could write our own drivers. It seems to me that we have enough
members of this forum with the talent to put something like this
together. <g>
