Still looking for some help on synching an animation to music. My problem is that the viewer in 3ds2 plays back at 20 frames per second, whereas I will be rendering to SVHS at 30 frames per second. I know you can speed up the player, but does anyone know how to judge the frames per second it is playing?

Gregory, The Yost band have gone to Chicago so I'll have a stab at your question. By going into the keyframer and selecting Preview/Set Speed and entering 30 frames per second and YES (to attempt to maintain that speed), then selecting View Flic, your animation will play back at a constant 30fps. Providing, that is, that your system is capable of playing back animations at that speed – it probably isn't since you will be playing back from the disk drive. If you have animator pro you can play back at 30fps (better possibility since should be playing out of memory) by entering the following POCO program courtesy James Hyde: main() { int frame_count; frame_count= GetFrameCount(); SetSpeed(31); PlayFlic(frame_count); } "Theoretically the variable passed to to set speed should be 33.3333… but I assume there's some POCO overhead involved, I empiricaly found 31 to be close enough." Why not just lay to tape frame-by-frame and then do your music in post-production since this is the only really convenient way to assure a constant 30fps playback rate. Martin

Thank you very much for your help. I'm sure one of these solutions should work for me. I'm going to try to set the VIEW/FLIC playback in the keyframer to 30rames per sec. The reason we cannot lay the tape first is that the song will already have been produced by the time we start work on the video. On the POCO, (excuse my lack of knowledge), how do I set that up? I've never used an outside POCO before. Would it run from DOS, or do I set it up as a file and load it into AniPro? I appreciate your help! Greg Cason

POCO routines have to run from inside of AAPro. They are auxillary routines that add some functionality to the system. One can create them, test them, debug them and execute entirely from inside of AAPro. ~It's essentially an interactive C language with access to most of the built-in AAPro functions.

Thanks for your help. I'll give it a try.

Be sure and read the last paragraph on page 114 of chapter 8 about hwo (how) to use Set Speed when your system can't play the flic back at the requested speed (which is usually the case). – Jack
