#New Spreadsheet?

Hi Bill,
Since you seem to one of the few Amigans who use spreadsheets, I address
this you. I am using SuperPlan, difficult as it is to make function. I
have figued out you have to print to disk & then send to PAR: & I do all
my dir changes, copys etc thought DiskMaster, BUT it's still a pain in the
butte to use even for the relatively simple stuff I do.
I've heard rumors of a great new spreadsheet coming out soon <someday?>.
Is the GD ProCalc REALLY worth another investment or should I wait & see?

I bought ProCalc based on the fact that it was the latest spreadsheet for
the Amiga. Whilst it has several decent features and many functions its
printint ability is awful, absolutely dreadful. I did try outputing via
PPage as it has a genie for that purpose but all to no avail. In the end I
bought Excel 4.0A. Now THAT is a spreadsheet.
So all in all, until GDisk upgrade A LOT the printing capability of Calc I
won't be using it at all.
PS I have a 386sx bboard.

You haven't lived till you've tried to print from SuperPlan! Took me a
half a ream of paper to get a correct print out via a disk file. Of course
I'm a little dense with all those printer definitions <G>.
I wonder if Excel or the "Home" Lotus will work with my MS DOS partition,
CrossDos Plus & MS DOS 5.0? I know & like Lotus & there are so many books
to guide one.

Gracia, I have the first release of ProCalc and, as I recall, I liked it, with
a few exceptions. As I recall the rnd() function actually truncates and the
cell linking feature is broken. There were a couple other minor problems.
Using a DeskJet 500 I got good results with printing.
If you want it, e-mail me your address and I'll mail it. If you like it, you
can send me whatever you think it's worth. I used it with good results until,
for business reasons, I *had* to use another spreadsheet.

Thanks, but I think I'll stick with what I have & hate <g> till a real
blockbuster comes along. I know you'd like to get rid of it…I also have
many <dead> progams.

Yup, Excel will work just fine from an msdos partition on your Amiga scsi
disk.
My own partition (until I get a replacement bboard for my 170mb Conner
drive) is 41mb, un-superstored and works a treat.

Thanks. I may treat my self, after I get a SCSI card & another, bigger HD.

I used to use SuperPlan, and gave up on it for the reason you gave in your
note. I just could not get it to print properly. Also, it did not use
file requesters. When you wanted to load a file, you were given a list of
the files in the local directory. If you wanted something outside the
directory, you had to supply the full path name.
The spreadsheet itself was nice, kind of like the CP/M and MS/DOS program
SuperCalc (which is different from the more popular Lotus family).
The "great new spreadsheet" you have heard rumors about is probably the
one that Khalid Aldoseri is working on. He has done a lot of shareware
programs and systems for the Amiga. The problem with this is that
shareware support is not as solid as that from establised companies, like
MSS, publisers of Exelence!, and Agis.
The problem with waiting for the New Improved Version, is that you don't
get to use the Current Working Version, and instead struggle with the Old
Bearly Usable Version. No matter when the NIV comes out, there will be a
Newer More Improved Version in the wings. MaxiPlan IV is OK, and ProCalc
2.0 is pretty darn good. I would be more than willing to trade in my
version of SuperCalc for any version of Analyze!, and both MP IV and PC
2.0 are heads and sholders above both.

I should be used to SP by now since I learned on Lattice's Unicalc, the
parent of Logistix & SP.
Oxxi is an established Co. totally uninterested in supporting SP. It is
definately an orphan program.
Belive it or not, my fav was VIP, a real Lotus clone, which I used on my
1000. It also had printing hang ups. Hmmmm I wonder if it will work on a
4000 <G>.
