Lately, my CD-ROM drive, an NEC-83J, has been acting up. Some discs it
won't read at all, others seem to take forever to access anything on them,
some appear to work fine. However, I think that the number of unreadable
discs is on the rise, and the nifty new Nautilus disc I got just yesterday
and read fine last night has moved into the "slow access" category. This
leads me to think that the laser read head might be out of alignment and
getting worse.
Does anyone out there know of a good repair house for these drives? Or
should I send it to NEC? Suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Bob Hines
