IRQ stupidity

I have a Sony CDU 31A that uses a Sony provided interface card. I also have
a PAS-16. The Sony interface card documentation says I have choice of using
IRQ 3,4,5, or 6 all of which being used by something else in my computer:
(3=COM2, 4=COM1, 5=Sound Blaster on PAS-16, 6=floppy controller). The Sony
doesn't mind sharing those IRQ's — but those other devices do (I
tried'em). I should seem reasonable that Sony provide IRQ support for some
IRQ's other than ones that are already comely used. Does anybody know
anything about the Sony card I don't – or better yet, does anybody know how
to connect the CDU 31A to the PAS-16 so I can yank the Sony card. – Mark

Mark, I got a Sony CDU 31 A also, but it was delivered in a package with a
MediaVision Sound Commander Pro card. To make a long story short I not
happy. The soundcard install diskette was delivered without a certain
sound driver I need, and for some reason I can't get either video or sound
from the drive, although I do get text and still pix. I called the Sony
Peripherals Products Company customer info line (408) 955-4343 and talked
to a guy named Ben. He blamed it all on the card manufacturer. They
(MediaVision) are sending me the missing sound driver, but the missing
video problem is still not addressed. I don't know what to do, and so far
my investment is a waste of time and money. I'd never buy a Sony or
MediaVision computer product again. Try calling Sony about your problem.
I'd be curious to hear if they help, or blow you off.
I don't know if it will help you (it didn't help me), but Sony has a BBS at
408-955-5107. They have drivers that you can download. I got updates for
mine but I don't know if they will work for the MV card. -Mark
Thaks for the tip. I have that number and have spoken with Sony. I can't
logon to their BBS from here cause I live in Guam and the Satelites don't
like data too much. They always hang me up. I'm on to the Drviers from
the MediaVision people through the mail. But I don't know if the
MVSOUND.SYS file they're sending me will address the video problem I have.
I can see text and still pictures, but no sound or video. The package with
the drive and card I bought stinks. I'd never do it again that way. I
understand Hitachi is a better way to go.

I bought the Sony CD library – the one with the Sony interface card
instead of the library that has the MV card. However, I noticed that my
installation disks had some MV stuff on them. Both kits probably have the
same installation disks. I'm not at home right now – so I can't look to see
exactly what's on them and what dates the files have. When I get home, I
zip up what I've got and try to upload it (I have never uploaded anything
and I'm not sure how it works).
