#Diamond Viper Card
8 messages in this thread
I have a Diamond Viper VLB 2MB VGA card. But if I use drivers = RCPAPI, I can't
use scroll bar to select file. Everytime I click the scroll bar the system
crashs. Another problem is the hicolor (16 bit or 24 bit) drivers don't work
either. 16 bit driver only displays half screen and 24 bit dislays 1/3 screen.
Is this driver problem or setup problem?

Alan Iglesias (70262,1240) uses a Viper with 3DS and I'm sure he can help you
figure out what your configuration problem is.

Hi, Alan (nice name<g>),
I've been using the Viper VLB with 3DSr2 since the release of the board with
fntastic results. ALL the functions will work fine when configured correctly,
provided that the hardware and software are in good working order. Since there
are more than a couple of ways to mess this up, I'm gonna E-mail you my phone
number. If you wish, give ne a call and I'm sure we can nail this thing down.
My first guess is that there is a memory conflict. If you are using QEMM, be
sure to exclude A000-C7FF, which is where the board resides im memory. If you
are not, try it!

Hello Alan:
It's so nice to talk to someone named alan. I would really appreciate if you
would give me your phone number and we could talk over the phone.
Actually, I use EMM386.EXE and DOS 6.0. In my config.sys file, I use
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM X=A000-C7FF
and I config 3DS.EXE with -clear switch:
CFIG386 3DS.EXE -clear.
But I still got problem. What kind configuration you have?
The other question is that if flic file support hicolor (more than 256 colors).
Because I render frames in 16 million colors but when I play the flic file it
still seems 256 color pictures.
Thank you for your help very much.

PMJI, but after you clear all the settings in 3DS, what do you then set them
to? Or are you saying that you don't?

Alan,
With the VIPER you must make sure that you answer NO to the question at config
time that says something like "Do you have a VGA or SVGA card?" 3D Studio is
looking for certain VGA sync signals that just aren't there when your using the
P9000 which on the Viper. Also, if you are having problems in any resolution,
make sure you get the latest drivers from Diamond. The latest version for the
Viper is 1.02B. You could also download the latest support that we provide to
Weitek, TurboDLD Lite, which has support for the Viper, from our BBS. The
number is 603-432-5193 and the filename is P9LITE.EXE.
Good Luck 🙂
