I'm trying to get the Trantor 228 to work with Hitachi CD-ROM 1750s and
Microsoft Encarta. I can access the CD from DOS without problem. If I try to
run the setup program in windows, i get "System error, can't read D:". The
error occurs on different places each time.
Is this a driver problem ?

The T228 and the 1750 don't work well together because of some peculiar
hardware incompatibilities. If you contact our technical support department,
they can help you with a special driver that will slow down operation of the
drive, but may help with your windows problem.
