I am trying to map bumpy white stone material on a tube. I am inside the tube
looking down its length. I want the stone to map evenly on the inside surface
but instead it seems stretched in a way that doesn't seem natural no matter how
I adjust the mapping cylinder. Anyone had this same problem before? I find that
the planer map works best but leaves the stones on my right and left stretched
weirdly too.

Make sure your bitmap has enough "width" to reach all around the tube without
distorting, Mitchell. I often "flatten out" the mapping icon in my mind's eye
to get a handle on the proper aspect ratio for the bitmap in question. Also,
Don't forget that you can change the "size" of your map by adjusting the tiling
parameters.
Hope this helps,

Why are you using a planar map for a cylindrical object? The map is stretching
along the sides because the planar map projects in a straight line through the
cylinder. Try a cylindrical map and see what happens.
