#CI5000 and film

I remember someone asking about film, so here i come with info from the last
issue of Computer Artist. It seems that someone is doing a 35" computer
animation film using a Polaroid CI-5000, which I have use for two months in the
lab, with an special front for motion film and an Amiga animation program. The
Polaroid+the special front (I can't remember the model and the manufacturer)
cost is $10,000. You get 4000 lines of resolution plus special hardware based
antialiasing from the CI5000. According to the article, the quality of the
animation is awesome and the price is very cheap. I can assure that the CI-5000
has a really good quality on stills, but I am not sure about the color accuracy
between frames. Well, that's the info for those interested. I don't know if
it's available for 3ds, but it's sure that you, the hackers gang, can program
an ADI for it.

I used to use a Samuray film recorder (in the early days) that had similar
characteristics. The problem with that thing was that it took for ever to
expose each frame. Is this Polaroid thing fast? The Samuray had an oddball
parallel port to communicate with the PC. I think I could write an ADI for
that. How is the link between the PC and the Polaroid?
Yes, it's fast (however I can't compare with anything since I only have
experience with this film recorder). The CI5000 have SCSI and paralell
connectors, but SCSI is recommended. The software is outstanding (including a
Windows driver). I'll check the times and upload them to you. I'll check the
Computer Artist issue also.
