#Texel 5024 Does it work
3 messages in this thread
I purchased a Talon TA200, alias Texel 5024, with a Trantor T130B card.
When installed in my 486 DOS clone I found that it would not work. I could
get it installed as drive E:. I could copy a small file from E: to a hard
disk. If I tried to run an install program on the CD, or if I tried to
copy a large file from the CD to my hard drive, the whole system would hang
up. The big red button was required to restart my system.
I tried the card and drive combination on another PC, in case the problem
was with my clone, and got the same result.
I bought the drive from Insight, and their tech support could not suggest
anything execpt to exchange the Trantor card for a Future Domain card.
Instead I tried a Toshiba CD Rom drive, which we happened to have, in place
of the Texel, and everything worked just fine. So I assumed that it must
be the Texel drive. I returned the drive and got another Texel. That made
no difference.
I called Trantor Tech support, and they said that as long as I had driver
version 1.46f it should work. We went through a complete set up with them,
and in the end they said that they would have to go back to their
engineering , and would get back to me in couple of days. Two weeks later
I chased them up and they then said they do not yet support dual speed
drives ! I would have to wait to mid February for new drivers.
But I see other people advertising the Texel 3024, which I think is the
internal verison of 5024, with the Trantor 130B.
Has anyone got a Texel 5024 to work with a Trantor 130B card ?
Robert,
Although I primaraly use my Texel 5024 (Purchased from Insight) with an
Adaptech 1542, we have the Trantor 130b in my wifes machine. My Texel
drive functions flawlessly (execpt under NT witch is a driver problem) on
BOTH machines.
My primary machine is a 486-50 clone. My wifes is a 386-40 clone.
I also have recomended this exact configuration to a friend who is using
the 130b and the 5024/Talon in a 486-33 without any problems.

Hi Robert,
the T130 is the one and only controller which supports multi-session with
the "upgraded" Texels yet. It works great in normal CD-ROM mode, even in
reading multi-session Photo-CDs.
