You are joking, I hope. I listened to him a few times and can't imagine a more
obnoxious, offensive, self-important, loudmouthed oaf. Quite nauseated is how I
felt after being assaulted by his rubbish – and I voted for Bush in the
election he won ('88), but not the last one (so I don't fall into any political
category easily, either). In fact, I didn't vote for Clinton but I think he
should give him a chance. If Limbaugh is liberal, so was Mussolini <g>.
Martin, God bless you, you make statements as succinct and elegant as anyone
could ever want! Hope I get to meet you sometime.

David, I owe you an apology. Recently I told you that I felt this forum was
for subjects of and for comments related to Autodesk multimedia, 3DS etc. I
told you I would only respond to your political questions on the appropriate
forum. I was wrong. After following these threads on the Take 5/ General
section including those of the sysop's I now agree that in this section
anything goes.
I didn't realize this section's purpose at the time.

Thanks, Don, though I have a funny feeling I hear a note of sarcasm in your
note. (Don't ask me how that could be possible, it would take us into a MUCH
further afield area.) In support of your earlier position (which does not
require it) the thread we were pursuing previously was in What's New, I'm
pretty sure, rather than this, more appropriate, Take 5 section, which most
forums have some variant of for these very purposes.
No sarcasm was intended. Really! I've been accused of that before. I've
never been accused of being a diplomat. I guess that goes with having been a
plant manager with average of 50 people responsibilities for 15 years.
What I meant was now that I've apologized and admitted my error I feel free to
join in on all this nonsense once in awhile. OK?

While obnoxious, offensive, self-important, loudmoouthed oaf are preceptions
reletive to what you find these adjectives to be, Rush can hardly be compared
to Mussolini. He does often stumble into self-contradictory positions (like
abortion and how he would have a raped, pregnant daughter deal with it (like
Bush and Quayle weaving during the convention)), but overall, he's more
practical than idealistic. Furthermore, his program presents information that
is often valid, informative, and rarely known (such as JFK's belief and action
that raising taxes squashes econimc recovery and lowering them stimulates it).
Listen to the guy some more. If you do, you'll find that Rush's postions can be
distilled into these principals:
– All people are equal. Any law or policy that differintiates people is
therefore discriminatory.
– "Give a man a fish, he'll eat for one day. Teach a man to fish, he'll
eat for a life time"
Principals that I bet you'll find more agreement with than disagreement. You'll
certainly never agree with everything, but then, is there anybody you agree
with completly?
As far as equating Rush with Mussolini, its like equating Ted Kennedy and
Chairman Mao.

If that was all things boiled down to then it wouldn't be so bad, but I think
something far more insidious is going on….

Interesting point but I think not. The only viable political choices in
America, IMHO, seem to be centre and right of centre (democrats) and right and
extreme right wing (republicans) – there simply isn't any socialist party of
any consequence. Therefore, Ted Kennedy was probably never more than liberal
compared to world socialist figures. Whereas, in England you have definite
left-wing (labour party), centre (social democrats/liberal party), and
right-wing (Conservative party) – of course, each has it's own spectrum of
moderates and extremists. However, Rush "MacArthy" Limbaugh seems like more of
a "look-out! reds under the bed!" far right type, IMHO, and consequently
worries me greatly.
Maybe I'll listen to him a bit more and sift through his drivel to find out
where he stands. Only thing is someone who calls his show "a brush with
greatness" has really got off to a bad start with me, even if it is
tongue-in-cheek.

Certainly true. Even Ted can't be that bad. (Guess you now know where I sit on
the spectrum (g))
By the way, you have to understand – I was born in Poland, my reaction to
socialism may appear extreme, but IMHO, experience is a hard teacher.

Not necessarily <g>. I have voted mainly conservatively in my home country
(England) and also in my adopted one (USA), but I like to see the whole of the
spectrum represented which doesn't seem to be the case here. However, I am
moving more to the centre now since the right is too extreme for my liking. You
can have a free enterprise system and still have some socialist tendencies,
though, especially regarding health care for all for example.
