Are there currently any plans to port 3DS to SCO UNIX for the PC. I believe SCO now supports a multi-processor platform, networking, etc…And also being that Unix is a faster operating system than DOS wouldn't it be practical to do this? Essentially, if this were done would it not also put 3DS in the speed realm of the SGI platform? I am currently running SCO 3.2 w/X windows/Motif and I can tell you, on a single processor True 50MHZ it makes DOS look like a Turtle.

Autodesk has a strict policy about not discussing future upgrades. frustrating, yes, but that is life. Personally, I'd bet on seeing 3D Studio on Windows NT before unix, but that is strictly a personal opinion based on certain factors, and may not reflect the truth at all. And it may be a couple of years before you even see it on NT, if at all.

John, Unix is _not_ faster than DOS for Acad/3ds type applications, especially when DOS is hooked up with Pharlap. This is largely because Unix is multi-tasking and Dos single-tasking. This was verified by tests of Autocad on different platforms/OS's done by Byte. A Compaq 486/50 running dos 5 and Acad was faster than most of the RISC based workstations running their flavour Unix and Acad. The only system which really panned the Compaq/DOS combo was the IBM/6000 and that was 5 times more money and MIPS. This was all explained in Byte and is not just my opinion, although I can see how it makes sense. Martin
