I am interested in collections of books/literature/lexika/News Collections, …
of all kinds on CD-ROM.
I've got already "Masterpiece Library" (Pacific HiTech, Inc.), "The Complete
Bookshop" (Chestnut), "Multimedia Encyclopedia (the 21 volume Grolier, Softwork
Toolworks), "Front Page News, 1991" and "World Atlas" (Software Toolworks).
* Does anybody know other ones? (Where to get them? Prices?)
* I read about titles "CD s World Library", "Toolworks Reference Library" and
"Electric Home Library". But here in Germany I could not get them. Any ideas?
* Where can I get "Front Page News" from 1992 and before 1991? My dealer in
Germany only could deliver 1991. What prices?

Have you heard about "Library of the Future"? They publish several discs with
a variety of titles included (and there are a couple of press release files in
either Libr #2 or #10.
I've also noticed that a number of shareware discs also incorporate versions of
popular out-of-print books.

Since you are in Germany, maybe you can answer a question I have had for some
time:
Are there any CD ROM catalogues of German language titles? I am looking for
the real stuff: collected works, preferable 19th c. editions of the classics
which possibly no longer carry expensive copyrights–Luther, Opitz, Liebniz,
Schelling, Goethe–even that GREAT series, Deutsche National-Literatur (sp?).
It would marvelous if someone would reprint that on CD-ROM.
Do you know if the Deutsche Buchgesellchaft is still in business? If so, CD
ROM publications would seem a natural for them since they did so many reprints.
I am tired of seeing lists and lists of trivia, games and yet more graphics. I
have great hope CD ROM will not suffer the same fate of television–the 'I Love
Lucy' on 20 different cable channels syndrome.

German literature on CD-ROM? I am afraid no. Not yet at least. I know only one
interesting thing: "Kant's gesammelte Schriften" Vol.1-9. But the drawback is
the price: 748,- German Marks (about $440,-). German made CD-ROMs tend to be
pretty expensive…
I think the market is not discovered yet but I hope it will improve (but with
to expensive prices: who is going to buy that??).
"Deutsche Buchgesellschaft"? No, I don't know anything about it.
I can very well understand people getting tired of all the games stuff and so
on on CD-ROM (although I LIKE graphics on CD-ROM as long as they are usable for
DTP).
How does it come that You are interested in German Literature?

Thanks for the reply. Kant sounds interesting but as you say, pricey. I can't
image crowds breaking down the doors for that CD. Maybe one should try
introducing a little healthy competition?
To answer your question about my interest in German literature: In a previous
life I studied a couple of years at the FU in Berlin, then later taught in a
Gymnasium for a year (grusam!). After this I was a professor at various
colleges in the US until the spector of poverty compelled me to seek more
meaningful employment.
Now I am a computer systems engineer with Ameritech (formerly part of THE phone
company) in Chicago.
