My local Apple Reseller tells me I can order a third-party internal
CD-ROM drive to fit the 5.25 inch, half height bay in my Centris 650. He
suggested I consider such a purchase because of the availability problem w/ the
AppleCD 300i and what I think is a non-competitive bundle.
I just called Apple, and they said they have no idea when the drive
will be available for after market installation, so I need to look elsewhere.
Do any manufacturers make a double-speed drive that will fit in the
half-height bay of the Centris 650? Do they have a front panel that matches the
rest of the CPU? Do they perform as well as MacWorld (July 93) says the AppleCD
300 does? Is there intelligent life on other planets?
Thanks for any advice coming my way.
