#1.3WB-Should I upgrade?

Hi! I'm new to CompuServe and just recently (tonight) installed Whap! on my 2000/1.3 WB. Don't laugh. It's a major achievement for me. Been reading some messages on the Forums. I've been thinking about finally replacing my 1.3 WB and updating to 2.x — but one store asked me if I had a lot of games. (I do.) He suggested that I stay with 1.3. I feel a little "behind" without 2.x though. Especially when I read how great AutoPilot is. What exactly are the pros and cons of ditching my 1.3 WB? – via Whap!

Allan, You could get a ROM switcher and keep the 1.3 and add 2.0 ROM, then you could switch back and forth from 1.3 to 2.0. They're not too expensive an option, and you get the best of both the old and the new world! chris

I waited arround quite a while for before I upgraded to 2.04. Let me tell you, it is really nice. The main thing I like about is the improvements in the Workbench interface. To tell you the truth, I am sure there is alot more, but I am so used to 2.04 now I am having a hard time remembering 1.3. If you do have a lot of games, (some games break CBM's programming rules and then fail to work on subsequent versions of the OS) you could always buy a Multistart. It let's you choose install both 1.3 and 2.04 ROMS and then you decide at boot time which one you want to use. If I remember it only costs arround $40 (not including ROMS).

Alan: Your dealer gave you bad advice (IMO). Don't walk, RUN and get at least the 2.04 OS, if not 2.1. If you are concerned about 1.3 compatability for the sake of gaming (only older or poorly written games will crash under 2.x) then also get a ROM switcher that allows you to have both the 1.3 _and_ 2.x roms installed, and choose between them.
