Help!!!
I have installed a Toshiba 3401 onto an existing Adaptec 1542 SCSI adapter
which controls my boot hard drive. My problem is that I am trying to install a
Soundblaster Pro 16 which uses either address bus 300H or 330H for its 16bit
MIDI channel. My adaptec card uses 330H and I have a third party card which
uses 300H and cannot be changed.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to change the address on the Adaptec card
and still have it boot my hard drive.

I had a similar address conflict and used 230. This is controlled by switches
2/3/4 on the Adaptec board:
2 3 4
0 0 0 330 (default)
1 0 0 334
0 1 0 230
1 1 0 234
0 0 1 130
1 0 1 134
You also need to add a parameter "/p230" (or whatever port you use) to
aspi4dos.sys in your config.sys.
I don't boot from that card, but I cannot see why that should cause a problem.

I know that the 1542A required that the port address be set at 330h for BIOS
operation, but I don't know if later models of the 1542 loosened this
requirement. You might want to send a mail message to John Lloyd of Adaptec
(CIS ID 70714,3214) – he's usually very helpful answering questions like this.

I believe you may need to get a replacement ROM from Adaptec which will allow
you to use an alternate port addressing range. A call to Adaptec Tech Support
would be the best approach.
