#"run-time error", help!
5 messages in this thread
I just purchased and installed a NEC CDR-84JD-1. I'm experiencing several
problems:
1.) On some of the titles that came with the CD ROM I'm getting the
following
message when running some portions of the program:
run-time error R6003
– integer divide by 0
Is the above message due to problems with the CD ROM or are they
indicative of software or setup problems? I'm experiencing this
problem with at least two titles. Any suggestions?
2.) I can get video, and I can get sound, but not at the same time. I have
close to 600k base memory free, and a total of 16 meg on the
motherboard,
although I think DOS is too stupid to recognize it.
If anybody can help with the above problems I would really appreciate it, I'm
about ready to send the CD back.
Many thanks in advance.
Ed,
Knowing what titles you are having the problem with would help us.
Also do you have a sound board, if so which one.
A wild guess is that the Audio you get is CD-DA red-book, no sound card needed.
The movies that crash are calling a soundcard driver that isn't loaded, this
could get you divide by zero error.
Thanks for your quick reply.
Two titles I'm having trouble with are "The Software Toolworks Multimedia
Encyclopedia Version 5.0" and "A Line in the Sand". These titles were bundle
with the CD.
I have two sound cards, a Sound Blaster Pro and a Roland LAPC-1. However,
neither board is physically connected to the CD (I don't have the three prong
cable). Instead, I plugged into the ear phone jack on the CD directly into
some amplified speakers.
I am adimittably naive about the relationship of between a CD and sound cards.
I thought you could get sound directly from the CD without any sound cards. If
not, why is their earphone jack in the front panel of the CD?
An example of a problem with the "Encyclopedia" title, If I chose a JFK speech
on
the sound index I can hear it just fine. If I chose the SAME speech with an
accompaning video, I can see the video but there is no sound. During
installation I chose REDBOOK as the sound option.
I hope I'm not asking too many questions, any help is greatly appreciated.

Ed,
Never too many questions. This is the right place for them.
As to your Redbook vs sound card audio questions. I'm going to defer answering
for a day or two. There may be a file already in the library that answers your
question, If not I may write one, it's asked quite a bit.
Back to your original thread, do you still get the divide by zero message. I
assume that this occurs in the encyclopedia if you install as Soundblaster
audio?

Glen,
Remember me, I was experiencing "run-time error" messages with various titles.
I
promised you an update, here it is:
The problem with the "encyclopedia" title (no sound on videos) was resolved by
switching the interrupt on my sound blaster pro.
My run-time error messages from the "Line in the Sand" title have not gone
away. My assumption is that this is solely a software bug and not indicative
of any problems with the new NEC CD-ROM (CDR-84JD-1).
Thanks again for your help.
