Hi! I having trouble installing this scsi disk on a OS/2 system. I have a trantor 130b scsi interface board to which I connect a NEC 25 cd-rom reader (via an external cable) and a MAXTORS 7213S 200MEG hard disk drive via an internal cable. Both of these devices work fine provided the other is disconnected. I am using the trantor drivers for OS/2 in OS2-TSL4.ZIP downloaded from Hobbes. However, if the CD-rom player is connected and the disk is connected to the internal connector, then the maxtor hard disk does not work correctly. It also does not work if an external scsi cable is connected with nothing but a terminator on the end of it! If the termination dip switch on the cd-rom is set correctly (to terminate) then the hard disk does not work at all. It can not be formatted. If the CD dip switch is set incorrectly, (not to terminate) then the disk will work well enough to format, but if you write a file to the disk and read it back, numerous bytes will be in error. (Not surprising since the scsi bus is improperly terminated!). As instructed by trantor, I have removed the terminating resistors from the maxtor disk, but the disk also does not work with the resistors in place. I have tried the t130b jumper J2 in and out, it does not work either way. I have tried leaving the cdrom statements IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD BASEDEV=NECCDS1.FLT out of my config.sys file to software disable my cd-rom player, but the maxtor disk still does not work if the cd-rom player is physically connected. I have tried other external cables for my cd-rom player and other internal cables for my disk drive. Is there any way to get os/2 to tell me exactly what is going on at the hardware level when the format commands fail? Any way to tell it to tell me what is in the scsi control registers when such a command fails? I have tried using SYSLOG but I can not get LOG.SYS and LOGDAEM.EXE to produce any records for SYSLOG to examine. What am I doing wrong? I have found one way to make both the disk and the cd rom player work at the same time, but it is unsatisfactory as a perminet solution. If I connect both the disk and the cd-rom player to the external connector, daisy chaining using an "internal case cable" with female centronics connectors on the ends and a 50 pin internal connector in the middle, I can get both devices to work correctly at the same time! This is not a perminent solution, because I can not close the case on my computer! But it does show that the problem is not something like conflicting unit addresses or a bug in the OS/2 driver. Does anyone out there have a trantor T130b with devices connected to both the internal and external scsi connectors? Please send me a description of your setup. Thank You.T
