#PAS & Bernoulli

As a PAS-16 user with an Iomega Insider-90 Bernoulli drive in the same 486
desktop, I've been considering the possibility of saving a slot by switching
the connection to my Bernoulli drive from its proprietary 8-bit PC2B adapter to
my PAS-16. I understand Trantor's SCSI-Works package would enable me to do
that.
I've gotten the impression, however, that using the PAS-16 in this way would
probably not offer very impressive SCSI performance on the Bernoulli (or on a
SCSI hard drive for that matter). Can you offer any insights about that
question?
As I'll soon be adding a Seagate ST-4766N (676mb) SCSI drive to my Gateway
4DX2-66V desktop (which contains the PAS-16, NEC CD-ROM, Bernoulli, etc.), I'm
very interested in slot conservation by using a single SCSI adapter. I can
borrow a one-year-old Bustek 16-bit SCSI adapter. Would that work and provide
superior SCSI performance to the PAS-16?

Actually, the Bernoulli 90 is about the same speed as the PAS SCSI port…
about 680K/sec, so you shouldn't notice much difference.
The Bustek may be slightly faster with the hard drive. It will also allow you
to boot from the SCSI drive, which, of course, you can't do with the PAS.
CD-ROM and Bernoulli won't do any better on the Bustek card than on the PAS.
A sideline question, I am using your SCSI works ASPI driver with my PAS\16 and
CorelSCSI. I have my CD-ROM , Bernoulli, Maxtor Worm, and now a Maxtor 500Meg
Scsi hard disk. I am wondering if you have a update to this driver, it appears
to give random erattic read failures on the hard drive
To bad you guys didnt write the PAS for NT driver, I would have it by now
rather than have MV erasing all comments on NT and the SCSI drivers from there
section.

Actually, we did write the NT driver for the PAS… then we gave the source
code to Microsoft to include in NT. Microsoft has stated that it will ship the
SCSI drivers for the PAS in the release version. You just need to wait awhile,
since NT still isn't released yet.
SCSIworks! is still shipping in it's initial release version. There is nothing
in the new version that would make any difference in your case. Usually random
read failures indicate a termination problem of some sort. Or perhaps Corel can
help with some more info, since you are using their drivers with our ASPI.
