#Help on New A3000

To anyone out there with an A3000! Hey, I just upgraded from my A2000 to an
A3000. Here is my big question. In my A2000 I had a MicroWay Flicker Fixer and
it gave absolutely crystal clear NTSC HIRES Interlace screen on my CBM1950. Now
I hook up my A3000 and I must say that I am a bit dissappointed! The interlace
is flicker free UNTIL I am using any of my modem programs and then there are
noise lines whenever I am actually receiving data. (Well, not actually flicker
free…the upper left hand corner of the screen appears to be a bit warped with
just the WorkBench screen)
I gotta tell you that other then this slight anonmaly that I am super
pleased with the speed and power of the machine, but I am using it as a
terminal 50% of the time to do work from home and am forced to use the NTSC
NON-Interlaced mode just to keep from getting annoyed. Is this normal???Am I
destined to get another video board??? Is my unit defective??? What gives??
Any information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Jamie,
You more than likely need to adjust the scan doubler on the 3000. There
is a small pot on the back of the machine near the toggle switch.

There is a documented switch to bypass Amber (the flicker fixer on the
A3000). Make sure that it is in the correct position.

In addition to the fine comments that you have already received… your
description makes me think that you might have a bad connection
somewhere.
I am looking at and using an A3000 machine that used to use a 1950 (one of
four) and none of them ever showed any indication on the display that a
modem was in use (other than on a telcom screen of course).
I would first check carefully that the monitor cable is ok. Then be sure
that the modem serial cable is ok. Make sure that the computer is plugged
into a grounded outlet. Also route the serial cable and phone cable such
that they do not cross over the monitor cable and even try moving the
modem around.
It is possible that there is something wrong with the A3000 itself but if
after adjusting the scan doubler and checking the cables it still does not
work correctly then I would either check with the dealer or another Amiga
3000 owner.

This is a problem that many, including myself have experienced with the
3000. Mess around a little with the controls on your 1950, you should be
able to adjust the flickering upper left hand out of the picture.
