Ben, or anyone else who can help, I have been trying to make animation of a growing animated ripple to a image but am having problems. It creates the anim but all the images are the same as the original, even the filmstrip is the same. This is the script I am using: /* * RADIAL WAVE Arexx Script for ImageMaster */ option results; 'entire'; 'tween 10 35'; size = result; 'tween 5 10'; mag = result; 'tween 0 360'; time = result; 'ripple '||size ||mag ||time; 'finish'; If there is something I am doing wrong please let me know. Another question is if I use 'oval' how can I place it on the image? Do I use coordinates? How are they laid down? Thanks. <<< Tony D. Tracer >>>

Anthony, I see something right away, I *think*. You've got: 'ripple '||size ||mag ||time; I think ARexx will concatinate those pups without the spaces because of the explicit concatination command (||). I've only done it these two ways (and know that both work): 'ripple' size mag time; 'ripple '||size||' '||mag||' '||time; See if either of those straightens it out for you. If not, I'll poke at it more specifically – there's an example in the addendum, I think, that does this (or something close to it). –Ben …via AutoPilot

After playing around with trying to `tween' values, on and off, for a few days I decided to change my script to the example you have in the addendum (Contrast) and found it wouldn't work. I was then `SURE' there was something wrong with ImageMaster until I decided to look at the script and noticed that I put `option' instead of `options'. No wonder I couldn't get it to tween!!! Duhhhh!!! The only thing I am trying to figure out is how to make the ripple `grow' from tiny to full screen. One of the reasons why I am trying to learn this is so I can give a tutorial on ImageMaster in the next local Graphics User Group. Thanks for your help… <<< Tony D. Tracer >>>

aha. :^) Well, you got around it, anyway. "TRACE R;" is always a good thing to have in the ARexx script when your designing it – tells you just about everything you need to know about the script itself. The ripple will grow if you increaase the size of the ellipse; however, the waves don't damp down towards the edge, although IM R/t does do that. –Ben …via AutoPilot

>"TRACE R;" is always a good thing to have in the ARexx script when your >designing it This is the first attmept at programmming in AREXX and I am finding it more and more difficult. Is that all I got to do to turn on tracing? Where does the output come out at? I tried reading the AREXX book about tracing and it doesn't give any examples. I tried using "TRACE R;", with and without "", no change. I then tried whet the AREXX book shows and still got nowhere. >The ripple will grow if you increaase the size of the ellipse; How can you change the size of the ellipse? Neither the manual of the addemdum explain this, it only say you can do it. Is there a REALLY GOOD AREXX book out there? Because I need something better then the C= book. <<< Tony D. Tracer >>>

Tony, The ARexx cookbook, by Merril Callaway is a good start. Trace R; no quotes. Start IMF from the shell, not the WB – otherwise, there may be NO output. Output will be in the shell. –Ben …via AutoPilot

No need to feel that way… the Amiga is a complex system. We can't all do the right things all the time. –Ben …via AutoPilot

Ben, "the waves won't damp towards the edge" — but if you make your ellipse grow at the same speed as the waves, and ensure the ellipse's edge is at a zero-point in the wave pattern (tough to verbalize), then at least you'll have a smooth edge. The waves will start at full intensity, but you won't have a seam on the edge of your ellipse. Blaq!

That's true enough. –Ben …via AutoPilot

I have an ARexx script at home to do the radial wave ripple animation stuff. I'll bring it in and upload it. It doesn't use the 'tween' function as it was done for an earlier version of ImageMaster. -Jerry Thompson

>I have an ARexx script at home to do the radial wave ripple animation I think it would be nice if those who have worked on AREXX scripts would u/l them for those who aren't AREXX experts. I'll look forward to it. <<< Tony D. Tracer >>>

I think everyone should upload their whole REXX: directory 🙂 There's a lot of talent in them thar scripts… Are you listening Larry? –Paul < Motorola Inside >

>I think everyone should upload their whole REXX: directory 🙂 The only problem I see with ImageMaster is that it is not well supported by 3rd party. Example: AD-PRO had FRED that lacked some features (pre 2.3) so several companies and individuals made `front-ends' to replace FRED. Since lots of people don't like IM's interface, why hasn't there been some form of support by 3rd parties? Even AREXX scripts would be a start! Maybe I should have addressed this to Ben. :^) <<< Tony D. Tracer >>>

Wait till you see R/t… :^) As for front ends, IM has always had more sophisticated ARexx handling than AdPro – we never needed a front end the way Fred does. :^) –Ben …via AutoPilot

What type's of scripts do you want for IM? I've done a few recently.
#60117From: Nick MurrayJul 11, 1993 5:30 PM
I would like a arexx script for IM that takes a whole directory of GIF images and coverts em to IFF's. Nick
#60194From: Peter GreciJul 13, 1993 3:18 PM
Nick, NO SCRIPT is neccessary to take GIF's and Convert to IFF's Not even a load of them, simply use Imagemaster's Sequnce Loader, choose the PATH for the Directory where the GIF's are then go to the save panel and set the type of IFF you'd like as well as the REZ and then go back to the Sequence loader and Run it. Use Execute, it SHOULD save the images out as IFF's fine. If not lemme know and I'll try myself.
#60199From: Peter GreciJul 13, 1993 3:56 PM
Seems I was MISTAKEN since I tried doing a directory of GIF's thru the Sequence Loader and it didn;t work. Guess a Arexx script IS needed after all for Imagemaster to convert a directory of GIF's to IFF's.
#60429From: Anthony RamirezJul 18, 1993 10:24 PM
I think you have to use the PI to load them so you can't use the sequence loader, am I right BEN? <<< Tony D. Tracer >>>

Yer right Tony, after I wrote that ERRENOUS msg I tested it to be sure and it didn't work. Oh Well.

I have uploaded some sample ARexx scripts which process a sequence of image files. There are a couple of scripts which work with ADPro and a couple of scripts to use with ImageMaster. Specifically, there is a script for use with ImageMaster to generate a ripple animation using the radial wave function. The scripts for ImageMaster do not use the newer 'tween' command, but they may be a good starting point. I added some comments to indicate where I was hardcoding values or making assumption. -Jerry Thompson
