#SBase Upgrade

I ordered the upgrade to SBase Personal 4 in Sept. 92. My VISA was charged on
4 June 93. It is now 2 July 93. When can I expect to actually receive the
upgrade?
BTW, I am upgrading from version 1.0 (from 1987). Are all the data files
downward compatible to version 1.0?

I left a message a few days ago to Oxxi/Precision (in this forum) and
still have not received a reply back from them. Maybe you would help me
if you don't mind???
I, too, have SBase Personal, version 1.0. I am curious about upgrading to
SBase Personal 4. How did you go about doing so? How much was it?
Sounds as if the actual upgrading (receiving of the upgrade) isn't working
though. Hmmmm. However, I am still curious how to go about upgrading.
Any help would be appreciated.
Good luck with your FINALLY receiving the upgrade. Makes me wonder if
it's worth it. Especially since they haven't even replied to my message.

In September 1992 I recieved the 'Oxxi Update' brochure in the mail. A few days
later I called Oxxi at (310)427-1227 and ordered the upgrade on my VISA.
Chistmas came and went with no reciept of upgrade. I called in Jan. 93 to
inquire as to why and they said they were working on it; call back in 3 or 4
weeks. I wasn't worried to much since my VISA had not been charged. I called
again in Feb (?) and they said call back in 3 or 4 weeks. Last VISA statement
had the upgrade charge on it. But no reciept of upgrade. NOW I begin to worry.
Local Amiga dealer says he's heard of the impending upgrade. If he (the
dealer) recieves it before I do then it's PANIC time. Lengthly delays in
software development I can understand (l'm a programmer myself) but paying for
something you have not promptly recieved is a little disconcerting.
Considering how old my copy of SBase is (no maintenance updates) I would
consider ANY upgrade to be worth the $65 (US) it cost me. While the database
engine works like a charm, it's interface is more than a little dated. If the
quality of the original version is maintained in the upgrade then I feel the
upgrade it well worth the price.

Thanks for the "how to" on upgrading SBase. I recently upgraded to 2.1
and since doing so it made me think about the necessity of upgrading my
SBase Personal (version 1.0), too. Yup, I'm sure there have been a few
changes, hunh?
I'm sure it must be VERY frustrating for you……waiting and waiting.
After you mentioned it, I remember receiving the upgrade notice in the
mail back in the fall. At the time I hadn't upgraded my computer — so I
put it aside. I did some digging around and eventually found it. I think
that I will give Oxxi a call tomorrow and see what they tell me. Sure
would be nice to have an updated version.

I got an upgrade notice in the mail today so it should be available
shortly. According to the notice they aretaking orders, so call them again
and make sure they are sending you the very latest (possible reason for
delay).

What are some of the details listed on the upgrade notice, Wayne?
There's a list of new features (including AGA support) a list of bug
fixes, and update price ($40 for software only, $65 for software plus a
new manual set). Then there is a develpoer extension that gives a runtime
module that can convert application into standalone programs that is
priced as 399.95 for the license or$100 for extension license upgrades.

I had about the same experience with the Personal-4 upgrade as you did.
It was billed June 2, 1993 on my Visa and I received it July 3 via
"priority" mailer. I really like the new manual and the program seems at
first look to be well improved. Best of all, no more dongle.

I received the upgrade today (at last!). It's been 11 months since I first
ordered it (ordered 29 Sept 92, arrived 13 July 93). I've seen better manuals
but it is a definite improvement over the old one. Best of all it accepted one
of my old databases (from version 1.0) with no problem. I especially like the
(new?) ability to save label formats (SBB files). The file requesters are now
regular Amiga requesters. At first glance, it seems that the upgrade was worth
the wait.
BTW, version 1.0 had no dongle.

Does the Form Designer in the new version allow you to do raised/recessed
buttons?
Have you seen the new SuperBase for Windows 2.0 version from SPC? I have the
PC SuperBase and am wondering how the OXXI SuperBase for the Amiga compares to
that.

I haven't had much opportunity to play with form designer so I can't say
about 3D buttons.
From a demo of the SPC version I attended the VCR controls on the main screen
are identical to the Oxxi Amiga version. Question: What came first the SPC or
Oxxi Superbase?

Superbase is one of the very few ORIGINAL AMIGA products that made it to
(and an impact in) the PC marketplace. According to SPC it sold about 1
million (!) copies there (as the first MS Windows database package) but
with Microsoft's and Borland's aggressive 'introduction offers' I don't
know whether it has a similarly bright future ahead of it…
Gold Disks Pro Draw, too, has recently been released as an MS Windows
product and according to the reviews it's at least as good as the current
leaders and at a much lower price – so you see, IT PAYS TO DEVELOP FOR
AMIGA!!! Anyone hear me???

I'm sorry, I seem to have misled you. I was referring SBase1 version 1.0
(1987). This version (the original Amiga version) had no dongle. No, my copy
of SBase4 version 1.3 has NO dongle.
