I wouldn't worry too much about using MPW, as Manuel Veloso pointed out it will
be supported on ETO in the future.
In my work I usually have source code components that are written to be used on
several platforms, I have found it much easier to deal with this using MPW (and
I usually just have to edit my makefiles rather than writing completely new
scripts in some new language).
If you are interested in producing native PowerPC applications you should note
that there will be a PowerPC SDK for MPW available which includes
cross-compilers, MacApp for PowerPC, "tools to ease the transition to an
MPW-based environment for users of Symantec's Think C".
