#VTP ADI
3 messages in this thread
Hi there,
I guess, Nik isn't around so I'm going to try all of you one at a time. I need
to know if it is possible to get the application version number from within the
VTP ADI driver. In other words, how can I tell if the application which loaded
the ADI is 3DS v1, v2, v6, or FLITAPE, and so on…
I asked this before and I didn't get an answer: Is there a way of getting the
pointer to 3DS video buffer from within the VTP ADI? It would be great if I
could do the whole thing from within the ADI and didn't have to have an IXP to
handle that. If that doesn't exist, what's the likelyhood of it being
implemented? If an ADI for an ABEKAS machine were to be written, this pointer
would be needed as the image is transfered as a stream of bytes instead of
grabbing the frame buffer. As it stands, I have an IXP to save the buffer out
to a file and only then the ADI can pick it up when it receives the EDIT
command.
It would be great if I could have some answers before Siggraph!
Thanks,
Gus
There is no way to get a pointer to the video buffer, as we said some time ago.
The best that can be done is exactly the work-around you have implemented: an
IXP to capture the raster stream and build your own image buffer.
As for getting the product name, there is the PWHO packet, which will return a
4 for Studio, other values for other products, but I know of no way to get the
version of Studio that is running. You can get the version of ADI that is
running, but it's always been 4.1 for Studio.
Well, first off all, it's a bummer not been able to get the pointer to the
video buffer directly. I was just hopping somebody had left a pointer "hanging"
around and never bottered documenting it. Good try, you say… <g>
As to the PWHO packet. I have never heard of such packet. I would expect this
type of info would be present in DINIT or VTRINIT. Regardless, if the version
isn't present, it will be of no help.
Thanks any way.
