There is no way to get a pointer to the video buffer, as we said some time ago. The best that can be done is exactly the work-around you have implemented: an IXP to capture the raster stream and build your own image buffer. As for getting the product name, there is the PWHO packet, which will return a 4 for Studio, other values for other products, but I know of no way to get the version of Studio that is running. You can get the version of ADI that is running, but it's always been 4.1 for Studio.
