I have a problem with 3DStudio, This happens during the Transforming Objects phase of Rendering. This problem has just emerged, we have been using 3DStudio V.2 trouble free for a couple of years. Now I have a scene with 3 objects in it : A large flat rectangle, A Company Logo which was Scanned, traced using CorelTrace, exported as an Illustrator .ai file format, imported into the 2D Shaper, tidied up and then extruded. A piece of text generated in 2D Shaper and extruded. 2 spot lights and 1 camera When I render the scene the text display stops on the Transforming Objects part, I have to toggle to the render display and toggle back again to get the Transforming Objects display to progress. This is very inconvenient as I have to toggle 3 times for each frame and my animation has 60 frames. I have tried removing each object in turn and rendering again and both complex objects stop the rendering at Transforming objects and the rectangle doesn't.

So what's changed in your environment lately? Memory managers? New hardware/TSRs? Which model of processor are you using? jonas[adesk]

Thanks for getting back so quickly. My enviroment is the same, the PC, TSRs, Config etc. 3DStudio renders most scenes OK, it is something to do with these 2 objects – see previous for description thta causes the rendering to stop. Any further ideas?

James, << OK, it is something to do with these 2 objects – see previous for description that causes the rendering to stop.>> Would it be difficult to recreate the objects from scratch and try a rendering? How much disk space do/did you have available during this project? There is a corner case where you can run out of disk space while paging to the disk, Phar Lap keeps on paging away (needing more disk space, not getting it but continuing to page to the swap file and corrupting the integrity of the swap file), you save the file(you have no clue that it's corrupt) and exit. Upon later sessions of 3DS, this file will give you problems. Do you think that this situation could have happened? jonas[adesk]

Thanks for your suggestions, unfortunatly the machine is out of action at the moment – having its hard disk replaced! I will try again when its back up.

<I have a problem with 3DStudio, This happens during the Transforming Objects phase of Rendering.> You might need to tidy your logo even more before you extrude. Coretrace might create a very large number of vertexes which might be unnecesary. As for toggling back and forth why don't you render with the DISPLAY option off? 🙂 This might speed up the rendering considerably. -Arturo

Thanks for your suggestions. You might be right about Corel Trace making a mess of my Logo – its a pretty poor program, but my other object – the text created in shaper also causes the same problem. I tried turning the display to NULL but this means you just get stuck in Transforming Objects because you can't toggle to the display which seems to make tranforming objects finish.
