I'm not going to SIGGRAPH but I have a question that may be answered before that. I was going to purchase an educational version of 3DStudio but I hope to make money with it and more importantly be able to upgrade to new releases. Since most developers like to announce/release new products and/or updates at big shows (ie:SIGGRAPH, NAB) I wonder if I should hold off buying 3DStudio until news from SIGGRAPH. I will probably hold off on that DPS PAR until after I see what comes out at SIGGRAPH. I would like to go ahead and buy 3DS now (3 weeks is long to wait) but I don't want to upgrade 3DS as soon as I get it, especially if the upgrade is going to be $500 like previous versions. I assume all lips are sealed and that I should probably wait, but you can't blame me for askin'. Thanks much BTW- I hear a Windows NT version of Lightwave may be announced at SIGGRAPH also. Having come from the Amiga/Toaster market I know what it can do, so that may be an option. I have been playing with a friends copy of 3DS for the last 2 months and like what I see, but I just sent it back to him so I am ready to buy. The IPAS stuff is what really impresses me about 3DS, something that LW sort of lacks in it's current version, although AREXX does help. I assume LW will be in the $2-3K range so I don't know if I will be able to get both of them, or if I have the need for both.
