I'm looking to get a copy of 3DS. Is the version you have an educational version or a commercial license? I'm looking for a copy that I can get upgrades for. What kind of offers are you looking for or have gotten? I'm kinda waiting till SIGGRAPH to see what Autodesk/Yost has involving new versions, so I may just wait to get a newer version since upgrades are usually $500. I haven't checked prices with my local dealer yet since I was going to purchase a educational version until I found out you couldn't upgrade.

Considering the Autodesk software upgrade cycle is 18 months (that's policy, not conjecture), and the latest version of 3DS (R3) was released last October, I'd say you've got a little wait until R4.

<< Considering the Autodesk software upgrade cycle is 18 months (that's policy, not conjecture) >> I would rephrase that to be "(that's been the historic trend)". I do not believe it's Autodesk's corporate policy.

Historic trend, then. I was under the impression that Autodesk put a lot of stock in the 18 month product upgrade cycle.
