I'm something of a novice at rendering and animation and I'm in need of information on how to output computer graphics to videotape. So I would appreciate anything and everything that anyone out there has to say about it. What I've done so far has been with a rendering package called RenderStar from Modern Medium. It produces a series of sequentially numbered .GIFs or TGAs which I have pulled into Animator Pro to create .FLCs (640×480). Using a Magni VGA Video Producer Pro board to generate an S-video signal I recorded them on an SVHS VCR. If anyone has tried something like this then you'll know what a waste of time it is. The total size of these animations (architectural walkthrough type stuff) is 1000 – 1500 frames and something like 250 – 350 Mb. In order to get a reasonable playback speed I sliced them into 30 Mb chunks and played them back out of RAM on a 486/66 but the best result was still only about 10 frames per second (way too jerky) plus pauses where the segments were tacked together (though I suppose that could be smoothed out with competant editing). What I'm thinking about now is some method of recording to tape frame-by- frame. The result will eventually be dubbed onto ordinary VHS tape for distribution to clients but the master copy needs to be of high quality. How many different ways are there to do this ? What do they cost ? Addresses of retailers/manufacterers [D [D [D [Afor product information ?
