Good news. I finally nailed the problem. Turns out that there was an old line
in three of the .RC files: "MENU n", where n was some low integer. This must
have been a holdover from a time when I was attempting to assign menus in
the doc templates. Apparently moving the menus to another class with
App Studio did not delete these lines.
Your suggestions were invaluable, as without them I would have kept
plugging away in the wrong direction, thinking that there was always yet
another esoteric gotcha to try. I am very grateful.
