Alternatives to MDI

The group I work with is developing an application that needs to have a very "data-centric" personality — quite in keeping with current fashion and advice (see: Cluts, Nancy Winnick. "Getting Ready for Chicago." Win32 and Windows NT Articles, Technical Articles, MS Developer Network Development Library, CD 7, April 1994). Thus, we are interested in "…alternatives to MDI (such as workspaces, workbooks, and projects)" — to quote from the above-referenced article. The article goes on to say that these alternatives "…use the single document interface (SDI) model" and our current work has been based on that. But I wonder if anyone knows of any plans for more direct MFC support for these new interface models in the (near, we hope) future. If someone could point me at a white paper, or something like that, that would be great. And any thoughts, comments, etc. on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
