#Production Resumes?

Has anyone called the AmigaWorld hotline recently. It has a new message.
Something about one company meeting the judged deadline and wishing to start
production again on the A4000, A1200 and CD32. Details were scketchy. But I
think this may be the first positive sign that Amiga Users have had in a few
months now.
Just so people don't go flooding the phone lines, that message is from June
28th. The deadline for bids is still July 15th.

I'd hardly call it a "new message" unless one that is 11 days old (June
28) can be considered new.

I believe that the message states that one company alreay has a bid on the
table and that the supposed company has expressed interest in starting back
production of those machine if they are indeed the ones to get the rights to
the Amiga… From what info I have heard from the message , i believe that it
is good news…However i would really like hear that this mystery company is
commited to getting the bigger software companys to port their title over the
amiga… I don't just mean games either, I am talking about programs like
MS-Word and quicken etc etc etc… This I believe is what will make people
stand up and notice the Amiga… Going back to the way it was is no
solution…Unless people can see those type programs running on a computer that
can multitask like the Amiga can,then I don't hold hope for a reborn Amiga that
will sell better than it ever has….

I believe there is NO possibility of getting MS Word on the Amiga at all,
unless the Amiga suddenly switches to running Windows, Chicago (Windows 4.0),
or NT. Why would Microsoft bother porting all that code, help files,
documentation, etc., to a machine with such a small market potential? Very
little of the installed base can run a program that big or powerful.

A Quicken clone has already been announced for the Amiga and if you want
to run crappy MSDOS software like MS-Word, buy an Emplant and the 486DX
upgrade module. Who needs Microsoft to multitack MSWord, when we have UU?

Yeah, right, the same people who think FLC files are multimedia and buy
machines to run Lotus 123…ho hum. I really don't care if some DOS geek
can compile Borland code on my amiga, and neither do most Amiga users I
would think. Showing the people what we can do with amigas, old or new,
has already gotten the Amiga more press than ever before. In fact, there
was respect in the community until CBM finally deservedly nose-dived.

Agreed…unless you mean the way it was three or four years ago before
Ali…and add in some real marketing.

The Emplant emulator already lets me show "those type programs" running on
my Amiga…hehehe

If you've an Amiga already, the Emplant is a good idea, but if you've no
computer yet, or have MS-DOS pc's, it won't sound very logical to buy an Amiga
and then an extra card to make it a MS-DOS PC again. It would be like buying a
sportscar and then changing it into a pickup again.
