Marion, I'm trying to get Maxtor IDE harddrive (790 cylinders, 15 heads, 57 sectors) working with my 386 BB and have misplaced my information on compatible VGA cards, IDE controller cards, and multifunction cards. The VGA card or multifunction card would go with a NEC 1401P3A (14 inch multi-sync). Would you be so kind as to post a quick list? Thanks a lot while I turn the house upside down for my past issues of CROSSINGS! (A move is as bad as a fire! Now where did I put them!) Hi Gayle, As we discussed today, I don't have a list to hand, though in your situation I think your problem stems from the drive cable, not necessarily from the IDE controller on the EMC card. I'll try to put a list together soon. I've been collecting hardware info, but it takes time for everybody to respond. Marion CROSSINGS Newsletter for Amiga/PCc/Mac compatibility

Marion, Your idea about calling Maxtor may have been a good one. They referred me to Promise Technology (or Technologies?). Right now I can't find my notes. The lady in charge of the shop wants to believe that the cable is correct and resists my suggestion to check out the cable. Anyway, if the DC99 IDE controller which has an XT interface and cache works, then my problem is solved. The EMC card still would serve nicely for VGA output to my multi-sync and a few extra ports for later use. Originally, getting the EMC card for VGA was my primary reason. One of her techs checked out my software installation diskettes for Novell DOS 7. He said that those were fine. Inexorably we're moving toward either the controller or the cable or the drive as the problem if it persists. She sold me the drive and had the three-foot IDE ribbon cable that I specified made for me. There MAY be some delicate negotiations. However, I'm confident that we can solve the problem faster locally. I would hate to do this over long distance! Anyway, I'll keep you updated! And thanks for your thoughts!
