#PAR for PC????

All,
I had a phone call this evening from a friend of mine that is doing
freelance computer grahpics for a company called "Flying Pictures" here in
Auckland NZ, regarding the "PAR". He needs to know if there is a "PC"
version of it as this company uses networked PC's with Studio 3D and wants
to be able to produce the highest quality output it can.
So my question is, what output does it produce ie S-VHS, Betacam, and or
one of the broadcast format's..????
Also would it be possible to use an Amiga/PAR setup to take targa output
from a PC and then transfer it to tape (video) if there is no PAR for the
PC….?
My friend seems to think that a half gig HD on the PAR will allow about 5
mins of animation. I seem to recall that some of the users here were
getting less than that and that a one gig HD was the better way to go..??
Wish I had the funds available to get into this work, however what I have
got, is now going into a two storey barn to live in.

There is a PC versioin of the PAR. If it is the same as the Amiga version
(except for the bus) it supports output in NTSC, S-VHS, Betacam and MII.
You could use an Amiga/PAR setup to take targa output from a PC and
transfer it to tape. I'd connect a Bernoulli Box (or some other external
removable hard disk) to the PC, format the cartridge under DOS and dump
the targa frames to the Bernoulli. Then connect the Bernoulli to the
Amiga and have Adpro (or some other image processing prog) read each targa
frame, convert it to iff24, and write it to the PAR. Note that you need
CrossDOS to read the DOS formatted Bernoulli from the Amiga.
The half gig Seagate hard disks are supposed hold 3 to 5 minutes of video.
I cannot confirm these numbers as I have never filled up my hard disk
completely. You are probably better off getting one of the Micropolis
hard disks, they are bigger and faster.

Rick is correct about it being possible to move images from a PC to the
Par-equiped Amiga using a Syquest or Bernoulli drive, however you
shouldn't have to run the images through AdPro. The current version of the
Par software supports Targa and SGI images as well as IFF.
One consideration in deciding between the Amiga and PC versions of the PAR
is that the PC won't multitask 3D Studio and the PAR software unless you
run them under OS2 or Windoze. You would have to save images to the PC
hard drive then import them to the PAR.
Whichever version you buy go with the 1 gig or larger Micropolis drives.
They don't cost that much more the the half gig drive and you'll be much
happier with it. (besides, you'll accumulate a LOT of images and anims
fairly quickly.) ;^)
