#Opacity Mask

I'd like to create a opacity mask in AAPRO. (i.e. a mask where some of the
background colors will be added to the masked object.) I have tried to create
an object with a glass color and then make it but the mask turns out to be
opaque. Can anyone help me with this problem? Franklin

of a spot light?

AniPro only has one kind of mask, namely, a bitmap that specifies
which pixels of the screen are "protected." A mask can also be
"pasted," in which case it is treated as containing only pixels of
the current color, or pixels that are transparent. A mask cannot have
several colors.
I am not familiar with "opacity masks," but would guess that what you
want is a one-frame cel (or FLC).

With AniPro you can only "paint." No information is kept with a finished image
regarding what "ink" or "tool" was used to apply color to specific pixels.
I'm trying to paste a picture that has been masked, over a different background
and have the background show through giving a translucency to the object. Such
as a see through effect a lace dress would have when placed on top of a multi
colored background. In essence I'm trying to stay away from a hard edge mask,
but a translucent look.
It may not be possible to achieve exactly what you want.
Some things to try:
– put your picture in a CEL and PASTE it on the background using glass ink
– or put the background in a CEL and PASTE it on the picture using glass ink
I have used a CEL containing a black to white RAMP (gradient), to gradually
darken a picture. I was not happy with the result, because the colors under
white, appeared foggy. I didn't find a good solution to this problem.
The difficulty is no direct way to assign transparency; you can only assign
colors.
(Other ways to do transparent stuff, which come to mind, are: MERGE ink, and
TRAILS, but I don't think they can help any more than the above).
If you are happy with just getting rid of the hard edges, then you could try
the UNZAG, SOFTEN, SMOOTH, or UNBUZZ inks.
You can bring in some background into the edge of a picture with the
above inks or by doing "HALF SIZE" (under FLIC – EFFECTS ), which
does the nicest job of all in smoothing edges.
If the holes in the "lace" are a distinct different color, you could use Sep.
with Merge ink after first putting a copy of your background image in the Swap
buffer.
