I am looking for two products–TAR for the Amiga and for the PC, which Allow
TARGA files to be written?read to DAT and Exabyte the read by any other
machine (PC, Amiga, SGI) with TAR. And the software that allows Amigas to use
external PC-formatted Hard-drives. Thanks, Christie

TAR is a Unix archive handling program that has been ported to just about every
computer and OS made. The fish disks have Amiga versions of TAR and there
probably is a copy in the libraries here.
TAR is independent as far as the nature of the files with which it deals.
TARGA, Toaster, executables, GIFs, TIFFs, IFFs, and ASCIIs are all the same to
it. As to the DAT and Exabyte… if the tapes were not written with TAR then
it is unlikely that TAR can do anything with the tape.
The best software for using an MSDOS type drive on the Amiga is the latest
version of CrossDOS (a commercial product).

There are several 'tar' for the Amiga. I believe I use the GNU 'tar' most
often. I still have binaries in my C: directory, if you need them. If you want
docs, you might have to find a different source than me… 🙂 But 'tar' is
very similar no matter the implementation.

Just got your message about TAR-no you didnt answer that question a year
ago–but I should have asked it.
One that I know has been often discussed–but I didnt note down–
cant find and I know you'd know if anyone does–tho its a different kind of
file transfer–is do you know the BBS locastion of Amiga TCP/IP to work with
winNT TCP/Ip.
I know of people whose network was crashed trying to install it–do you
know of quirks with it/

I know that AmiTCP can be found on the Aminet CDROMs. I suspect it's here in
the Amiga Forum libraries, too. I know I downloaded at least one version of it
here. I can't imagine why it would "crash a network," but who knows. 🙂
