Teac?

I've just bought a store-built system, and I got no documentation with the CDROM drive. The installation disk is for a TEAC CD-55A and the CD drive was already set up when I purchased the computer. During boot-up I can see the initialization information screen and see that it is being set as a 4x drive. When I benchmark the drive, using MPC Wizard 2.0 and CD Certify, it reads out as a 3x drive with a transfer speed of 450. Not having gone inside the case to physically look, I'm not even sure that it is a TEAC drive. Externally, it is a CD and 3-1/2 disk combined into one unit. Any suggestions before I tear the case apart or scream at the vendor?
