FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Prices removed for CompuServe posting…) SYNDESIS DISCONTINUES AVALON CDROM AT VIEWPOINT'S REQUEST Announces sale price of $XX on remaining discs Jefferson, WI – July 5, 1995 – Syndesis Corporation announced today that it will discontinue its popular Syndesis Avalon CDROM product, an exact archive of the Internet's most popular 3D repository, due to the acquisition of the Avalon site by Viewpoint Datalabs of Orem, Utah. According to Viewpoint vice-president Eliot W. Jacobsen, "In light of their investment and commitment to improve the site for the continued free access of everyone, Viewpoint has requested that Syndesis respect Viewpoint's desire to be the single source of Avalon net access and Avalon CD-ROM publication." According to Viewpoint's press release on the Avalon acquisition, the present 'ftp' access to the Avalon site will be available for a limited time. Viewpoint will convert the Avalon site to a Web-only site, enhancing the content with a ratings system, thumbnail renderings, and more. Existing mirrors of the Avalon site have been asked to stop and remove their copies of the Avalon files. Viewpoint will operate its own mirror sites around the world. Starting July 10, Syndesis will close out its existing inventory of Syndesis Avalon CDROMs at a special price of $XX each, including shipping anywhere in the world. Syndesis introduced the low-cost, freely distributable Syndesis Avalon CDROM at Siggraph '94 in Orlando. This ISO-9660 and Rock Ridge compatible disc includes a printed catalog that lists each file on the disc, showing the Unix and ISO-9660 filenames. Syndesis also makes InterChange, a program that translates between more than thirty popular 3D file formats.
