#Offline Slaves in LIST!
7 messages in this thread
Is there a way to make SLAVES that are not active show up in the Network
rendering list?
When I'm working on my machine I would like to put projects in the network que
that only my machine are allowed to do later. I can't use the "<ANY>" and
exclude all other machines as there are other maschines like mine that will be
slaves later that don't show up!
I have made a workaround to this problem. I copy the file net????.eqp for my
machine number onte the network library, so that it shows up in the list. But
there has to be another way, hasn't there?

That is an important point for us, also. The other reason for doing that is to
exclude machines that may be to slow or not have enough memory for a particular
rendering job, or to dedicate a large memory-monster to the machine which has
the most memory, even though it may not be on-line at that point in time.
Maybe build some sort of database of all machines so you could pick and choose
between them when starting your queue, even if they are not available then?
Wishlist manager, please add this!

An interesting solution to this would be for you to be able to define
groups of machines and give them a name. Then just select the group.

<< group programmatically.>>
If the slave was brought up as part of a .bat file as in
3ds slave
3ds slave
3ds slave
…
if the last project assigned and rendered on this slave had a .exe
assigned to a fake frame as the last frame, which programmatically
changed the entry in 3ds.net/net-path to another MCS directory and
also had a IPAS3 routine (whose existance is unproven) which could
gracefully force 3ds to quit, you could almost get what you want.
<lot's of ifs… 🙂 >
… (added to R4 wishlist)….

Martin,
A much more simpler method would be:
*send all of your jobs that you want the other slaves to render normally
*modify /Network/Configure/Network Path to some other directory like Me_Only
*send the jobs there that are just for you're machine(or machines like you)
*network slave…
This is more elegant and allows you to manage many seperate MCS directories
that have something in common.

Yes, but how do I get my computer to help the other computer when it's
ready with the rendering's dedicated to it!? The thing is that that
my computer has 64Mb and all the others have 32Mb. If I'm making BIG
TGA's that will be outputed to slides (3000X2000), I want my computer
to make them. And when it's has done those, there is no reason not to
help the others!!! If I use your method how will I make the computer
change NETWORK-PATH after rendering his own net-que?
There is another thing about network-rendering that is a bit strange.
Why erase the .PRJ-file when the mesh is rendered. Why isn't it
deleted when taken away from que as the .LOG and the .DAT file? Is
it to preserve diskspace <g>?
