Trying again with this enquiry after no response. Where can I find the programmers documentation to aaplay.dll? I've looked in the libraries here and found nothing. TIA Paul

<<Trying again with this enquiry after no response. Where can I find the programmers documentation to aaplay.dll? >> What you need is the Animation Support Libraries, without a doubt! This developers kit includes C and Visual Basic Programmers reference manuals for the Windows Player, Fliclib and File Format manuals, Code examples and other support files, POCO and POE reference manuals, and more. You can order this kit directly from Autodesk by calling 800-964-6432. The kit costs about $25. "Animation Support Libraries R2.0 SAP# 03302-013303-9000".

Thanks for the details. I just called Autodesk in the UK to try and order one but no-one had heard of it. Eventually I found a dealership that knew of it but said it was L210, ie $330! Can this be the same product? TIA Paul.

It *is* the same product. $25 in the states, >$300 in the UK. Sigh…. P.

Paul, I have asked Autodesk U.K. to re-evaluate it's pricing. In the meantime, check your e-mail. -Brian

The AAPLAY.DLL is part of a whole toolkit we have put together for developers which includes the Animation Support libraries and the Flic file developers kit. Unfortunately the individual items are not available separately, the price includes technical support. Nick Manning. Product Manager.

Paul, I don't know where you got that info from but the product we sell in the UK for L195 is most definately different to the $25 US version. I hope the text below describes clearly what you do get. Nick. ANIMATION SUPPORT LIBRARIES R2.0 ====================================================================== This product is a merge of the old Animation Support Libraries kit and Animation Player for Windows Developer Kit. This name of this kit is "Animation Support Libraries R2.0". Contents: FLICLIB ——- Fliclib contains libraries for manipulation FLC files. It includes functions for creations, playback, video device management, clock support and graphics data management. Includes support for the Watcom C/386 and the MetaWare High C development systems. Because FlicLib is a Protected Mode Library (32 bit), the application using FlicLib must be a protected mode program, with an included DOS Extender. POEKIT —— Explains how to add libraries or custom functions to the POCO programming environment. This becomes necessary, when the POCO interpreter does not provide enough horsepower or flexibility for a specific kind of task. The documentation contains additional details on various files that AAPRO uses beyond FLC and CEL files and includes the full .FLC specification. PDRKIT —— Lets you write file translators for Autodesk Animator Pro. You can create a routine for writing and reading files not currently supported. The Animation Player Developers Kit ———————————– The Animation Player for Windows is a software program that lets you play animation files, either singly or in a scripted series. Using Microsoft Windows 3.1 (or Microsoft Windows 3.0 with MultiMedia Extensions) in combination with sound hardware in your system, you can also play sound in coordination with the animation. The player supports the animation file format .flc and .fli, Windows graphics formats .dib, .bmp and .rle, and sound formats .mid, .rmi and .wav. The manuals included in the tool kit are: – Animation Player for Windows – Reference Manual – Animation Player for Windows – Microsoft Visual Basic Programmer's reference Manual – Animation Player for Windows – C Programmer's Reference Manual The tool kit includes tools for support of the Animation Player that allow: – Playback of animation via DLL from a Visual Basic program – Playback of animation from Windows – Playback of animation via Microsoft Multimedia Control Interface (MCI) under Windows – Sample code for Asymetrix Toolbook applications – Sample code for Authorware applications Development tools required: – Microsoft Visual Basic (for playing back animation using the DLL) – Microsoft Windows compatible C compiler (for playing back animation using the DLL)

Nick, I am sorry for contradicting you on the open forum, but you are mistaken. The ASL that you have just described is exactly the same developers kit that is sold in the U.S. for $25. However I understand there are differences in the support and other services that you provide, that we do not provide in the U.S. You might want to talk about those. -Brian Rudolph Autodesk MM technical Support

> I don't know where you got that info from but the product we sell > in the UK for L195 is most definately different to the $25 US version. Sorry Nick, but that's just not true. The product you've just described is _exactly_ the same as the product on sale in the US for $25. This has been embarrasing for us on a number of occasions – we are 3DS dealers (or rather, I guess we _were_ until I started a fight with you here :-), and we've had customers asking us for this product. The customers know what the US price is and are amazed at what we have to charge for it. I've tried speaking to your people and they pass the buck to TechEx, I've tried talking to TechEx and they pass the buck to you !!!!!

I got told the US version sells the ASL as seperate items, whereas the UK version is all the items, hence the cost. Geoff.
