I previously inquired about unexpected lateral displacement when using Modify/Vertex/Align. Here's the example that demonstrates this problem. I just want to understand the limitations of the program. 1. Create a simple box (100 unit on each side) on the X/Z plane in the 3d editor. Use increment snap so that precision is assured. 2. Modify/Object/Move so that its center is located at (0,0,0). 3. In front or side view, use Modify/Vertex/Move (constrained to the Y axis) and move each upper vertex to a different Y value. 4. With default construction planes axes at (0,0,0), select these modified vertices and, in the top view, use Modify/Vertex/Align (Selected) to align the vertices to a common Y value. The result of my demonstration was that each vertex is shifted by 0.58 units (+X,-Z). A significant error IMHO. I'll upload the resulting file (box.3ds) for your analysis. A. Jay Holland

>>Modify/Vertex/Align – lateral movement<< I was able to reproduce your problem with even more dramatic results – a displacement of 0.88 in the two axes perpendicular to the align operation. I will pass this on to Autodesk staff for their review. As a workaround, Modify/Vertex/2DScale to 1% several times along a single axis. I use this all the time, and thus never noticed this other anomaly. – DaveM

Hi Jay, Thanks for the concise bug report. We will be passing this on to Autodesk's Quality Assurance dept. jonas[adesk]

I did your tests and this is definitely a bug. You don't even have to move the vertices on the top face of the box. Create a normal box, then select the top vertices then do a Modify/Vertex/Align in the top view and the vertices will be aligned in the y construction plane but the x and z values will be incremented by, in my case +0.17.
