#100mbs Fast Ethernet?

Has anyone tried these new 100mbs fast ethernet cards with 3ds? Would this make a significant difference if you were doing a lot of network rendering?

Would this make a significant difference if you were doing a lot of network rendering? << I have about 8 of them installed (Intel Pro/100 PCI), but haven't bought the hubs yet since they were very expensive last I looked. So I'm still running at 10mbs. Our companies network guru is more a fan of switched ethernet and, better yet, ATM. So I'm not sure if we'll ever get the fast ethernet hubs after all. Hopefully someone else will jump in with their experiences.

Primarily, they were purchased to replace our ISA cards when we ran out of slots. That will probably be the one and only reason we switched! Those 100Mb hubs are _way_ pricey. I had flirted with the idea of the 100mbs hubs, but our network systems admin guru seems to think 10mb/s switchers (1 per 8 PC's) are a better solution, or at least more tried and tested. He knows more about network technology than me so I bow to his superior knowledge. ATM would be our next step. >> Those 100Mb hubs are _way_ pricey. << too true!

Ah. I've been looking into these since I finally got the ok to seriously start pricing and spec'ing out a network for the office, and the 100mbs were (are) looking pretty decent. but overall, I am still just getting my feet wet in networks. Overall, for a file server, do you feel it is better off to go with someone like Compaq or IBM, or would a clone do just as well? So far everyone is telling me to run screaming from a clone, but the boss sees this as a money saver. I am starting to see it as a major headache for me.

Tim, >> or would a clone do just as well? << a clone with tried and tested components would probably serve just as well, IMHO. Look for a dual processor Pentium 100/120 with an ASUS PCI or EISA/PCI motherboard.
