I've just read the very informative 3DSNET.TXT file. It mentions on several occasions the importance of shared file access concerning texture maps, IPAS routines etc. We've using a Novell V3.12 network and keep the texture maps on the server (in SYS:RENDFARM/IMAGES). 3DSNET.TXT says you need a network operating system that handles sharing or their might be problems. Does Novell fall into the catagory, i.e. are it's file sharing capabilities up to the job? If so, do we need to FLAG each shared file as shareable? Regards, Rob @ Mirage Ltd.

Rob: Novell should do everything you need, its the network I use for net-rendering (3.12). You probably will have to change absolutely nothing to get net-rendering to work for you. If, however, your network is steeped in file security and such you will have to verify that you have shared access the 3DS directrories. Typically one creates a 3DS specific login which can not only access the directories but also starts 3DS in slave mode to start. Your setup sounds just right for net-rendering. Rob, We also have a Netware 3.12 network and use the server to store our mpas. We have never had a problem with file sharing… – Steve Ormonde
