When I save FLCs in AStudio, I choose for 256 color output the "map to a file's
palette" option, select a graphic file that represents the single 256 color
palette of my entire multimedia production, and thought that the FLC would play
back without a palette shift.
Alas, as the FLC plays, there is a short flicker (usually 2) at the beginning
of the FLC play, as well as at the end , after which the palette is restored to
that of my regular graphics files. What am I doing wromg?

David, Is your palette a Windows Identity palette? if not, use Bit Edit to make
it so and build your assets with it. That way Windows will be happy.
