Okay, sounds like it's time to start a contest! ************** NAME THAT RELEASE ****************** Will it be called "3D WinStudioNT 95"? or "NTGlintStudio3D"? or "Zowie3D-NTstudioPlusXL"? All AMMEDIA forum members, with the exception of those employed by Autodesk or the Yost Group and their relatives are eligable to enter. Just post your guesses (under Take 5, please) and the winner (should there be one) will get a free beer at the ASOFT party at SIGGRAPH 95! (Must be 18 or older to enter.) All guesses must be posted by midnight, August 5th, 1995.

Gary, Um, Victor, a guy I work with at Acclaim, walked up to the president of Alias/Wavefront at the last SGI user group meeting and said, "Hey, I just thought of a new name for your company!" The prez asked, "what is it," whereupon Victor said, "Well, you just take the end of 'Alias' and the end of 'Wavefront' and you get. . . [he pronounced] AssFront!" I kid you not. — Jon

Wonderful, I'm sure Acclaim truly appreciated their employee displaying the tact and intellect of a 3rd grader. Just think …. now that Victor has done such a wonderful job demonstrating his wordplay prowness, he can proudly display it at the top of his list of accomplishments. It would no doubt make a fantastic addition to his resume. Paul

Dave: You gonna be at SIGGRAPH? How about: 1. Lightwhat? 2. 4D Studio 3. Athens (Mysterious code name like Chicago, Daytona or Cairo) 4. SoftElectricWavalias for NT 5. Renderpalooza! 6. 3D Studio for NT/CWAKIPASR (Complete With All Known IPAS Routines) 7. Gary's Power Tools Bob Bob Ritger !^NavFont01F0007MGHHGEBE41C

If you take the Athens theme and combine it with the Renderpalooza cadence, you get a good one… Renderopolis! – G

Gary: Renderopolis, I'd buy into that, hey – it would make a good name for the Studio City 2000 project in ASHOWCASE. – Bob Ritger !^NavFont01F0007NGHHG612F60

Bob: I particularly liked "SoftElectricWavalias for NT", but just remember to pronounce it with a French accent on the "alias" part! (Or maybe call it "SoftFromage"!<g> (Q. to D. Gould — that IS the way to spell "cheese", isn't it?) Dave

Without giving away the real name of the next release, I did infiltrate the Autodesk iron curtain and found this disclaimer being prepared for the packaging… CAUTION: This package contains restricted material that must be used only under close medical and psychological supervision. If you have had any prior heart or blood pressure problems don't open this box. If you enjoy sunlight and an adequate social life please be forewarned that this package herein contains material both dangerous to well tanned, socially adjusted individuals. For adequate protection follow one of the given procedures: 1) Marry a dominating wife that is totally against husbands having an addictive hobby. 2) Marry a dominating husband who is totally against wives having an addictive hobby. 3) Become a member of the "POV Animators Against Easy Animation Front". A radical underworld right-wing organisation secretly pushing the market for text editors. 4) Buy a 8086 with 256K and no mouse. This procedure is the most effective method of ensuring protection from becoming an addict of this product. Though it has been known to increase patience and/or suicidal tendencies. 5) Install the software then precariously place the dongle in a snake infected pit or feed it to the dog. Autodesk claim no reliability if you become a complete nocturnal, immaciated, rendering junky upon opening this package. All financial loses due to the sale of grandmother, car, and other worldy belongs in order to purchase more powerful computing equipment is also waivered. In the case of litigation, Autodesk will claim complete insanity due to having contracted a band of exhiled Tibetan monks to produce this software and further the cause of unified world peace. For the existing users, Autodesk offers to supply one set of handcuffs and a years supply of coke and pizzas if you register this product. The handcuffs can be used at the users discretion. Keep out of the reach of blond women and exostentialistic religious Mac Users. WARNING: More than three doses a day will reduce your social status toward that of a wholy nerd. <All financial loses due to the sale of grandmother…> You _sold_ your grandmother? God, how could you? I mean, don't you have a pawnshop nearby or something? That's where I took mine. Got a good amount for her too. Might even spring her in a couple of years. Um… they will feed her won't they? I mean, she'll be starting to get real hungry soon. Aaah, who cares. She was old anyway. Regards, Laurie. That coke they're providing – it will be Jolt, won't it? I mean, I'm losing a good three to four hours of productivity a fortnight due to falling asleep at the wheel.
